Alrighty here's the lowdown.

I think this piece is too advanced of a piece for us to be doing if one person of the entire group is not motivated. This piece will have to be learned entirely outside of the group and the rehearsals will have to be only for putting it together and dynamics and good things like that.

I voted that we could absolutely do this piece but it would take us ages if people dont take the time (i mean like half an hour a day (outside of school)everyday from when we get it till we perform it) to play this piece.

I'd love to play it, but i'll HATE playing it if people don't do their parts in learning it. (If ever im not playing good nuff for someone, let me know, i hate being hypocritial.)

i don't think EVERYONE in chamber is necessarily advanced enough to completely learn their parts on their own. yes, it'll take a lot of individual practicing, but think of how everyone learned the elgar serenade. *sectionals.* ms gero did a LOT of teaching people their parts, especially since not everyone takes private lessons.

this is not a professional orchestra nor is it seussical pit. i think there's a certain amount of "learning" can go on in our rehearsals; it always does. it doesn't just have to be about doing dynamics and stuff. plus, being with other members of your section can help you get good fingerings and learn parts.

what would make the biggest impact is if chamber members came during the summer. we'd get over a month's amount of rehearsals in because chamber at string camp meets 4-5 days a week for atleast a good solid hour... much more than during school. if members would commit to coming atleast two or three days a week, we could get sooo much done.

Yes, I agree with Alex on this. This piece is REALLY hard, and probably one of the most diffucult pieces we could possibly play as a group. Another that I'd like to add is that this piece is really long. That would mean that during a concert, which I'm sure we would play this piece if we pursued it, we would only play this one piece, and if it wasn't "amazing and perfected" then it would be a disappointment. Having shorter pieces can sometimes be nice because it opens us up to playing differnet styles. Overall, I believe that we have the potential to do this piece. Again, I agree with Alex on that this will be a very individual learning experience in that we all would need to polish our parts and during rehearsal just try to put them together.

honestly, i don't think that would happen (that we'd be really bad at this one piece). gero knows us and chamber is stronger than ever; if she thinks we're not playing our parts up to par, she'll arrange sectionals and DO something about it. our last few performances we've gotten on stage FULLY prepared.

the benefit of this being one piece is we can do everything possible to really understand what the piece is about. also, a lot of melodies and sections repeat themselves... it's not 14 minutes of all different stuff.
